Extract Audio from Video — MP3, FLAC & More
March 21, 2026 • VideoRecompress Studio Team
VideoRecompress Studio now includes an Extract Audio feature. Pull audio tracks out of any video file and save them as MP3, FLAC, AAC, Opus, or WAV — perfect for podcasts, music, language study, and content repurposing.
Who Needs Audio Extraction?
Extracting audio from video is useful in many everyday scenarios:
- Podcast Listeners — Extract interviews and panel discussions from video podcasts so you can listen on the go without streaming video.
- Musicians — Pull audio from live performance videos or rehearsal recordings to review, mix, or share as audio-only files.
- Language Learners — Extract dialogue from movies, lectures, or educational videos to create listening exercises you can replay anywhere.
- Content Creators — Repurpose video content by extracting voiceovers, soundtracks, or sound effects for use in new projects.
Supported Audio Formats
Choose the output format that best fits your needs:
- MP3 — The most widely compatible audio format. Supports both VBR (variable bitrate) and CBR (constant bitrate) encoding with configurable quality levels.
- FLAC — Lossless compression — identical quality to the original audio track, at roughly half the size of WAV. Ideal for archiving and music production.
- AAC — Modern lossy codec with better quality-per-bitrate than MP3. Native support on Apple devices, YouTube, and most streaming platforms.
- Opus — Open-source codec offering excellent quality at low bitrates. Great for voice recordings, podcasts, and streaming.
- WAV — Uncompressed audio. Maximum compatibility with audio editors and DAWs. Large file sizes.
How to Extract Audio
- Step 1 — Select Videos — Add video files or entire folders in Step 1 of VideoRecompress Studio. All common video formats are supported.
- Step 2 — Enable Extract Audio — In Step 2, check the Extract Audio checkbox in the AUDIO section. This tells the application to save the audio track as a separate file.
- Step 3 — Configure Format & Quality — Choose your output format (MP3, FLAC, AAC, Opus, or WAV) and set the quality level. Then click Start to begin extraction.
MP3 Quality Guide
MP3 offers two encoding modes. Understanding the difference helps you pick the right setting for your use case.
VBR (Variable Bitrate)
VBR adjusts the bitrate on the fly — using more data for complex passages and less for silence. This produces smaller files with better overall quality.
- High Quality (V0–V2) — Transparent quality, averaging 200–245 kbps. Recommended for music and critical listening.
- Medium Quality (V3–V5) — Good quality, averaging 130–175 kbps. A solid balance between size and fidelity for general use.
- Low Quality (V6–V9) — Smaller files, averaging 80–120 kbps. Acceptable for speech recordings and background listening.
CBR (Constant Bitrate)
CBR uses a fixed bitrate throughout the entire file. This produces slightly larger files but ensures predictable file sizes and consistent streaming behavior. Common choices are 128 kbps for speech and 320 kbps for music.
